Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Unemployment dropped to 11.9 percent in September according to the numbers released by the State’s Employment Development Department.
The number dropped two tenths of one percent from August and six-tenths from the September 2010 rate of 12.5 percent.
Five categories (construction; trade, transportation and utilities; professional and business services; leisure and hospitality; and other services) added jobs over the month, gaining 30,100 jobs. Professional and business services posted the largest increase over the month, adding 13,300 jobs.
Six categories (mining and logging; manufacturing; information; financial activities;educational and health services; and government) reported job declines over the month, down 18,300 jobs. Government posted the largest decrease over the month, down 7,000 jobs.
Marin County had the lowest unemployment rate at 7.8 percent while Imperial had the highest at 29.6 percent.
