CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Dangerous for Pedestrians 05-31-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Using 10 years of fatality data, Transportation for America released its “Most Dangerous Metro Areas for Pedestrians.” The organization calculates its Pedestrian Danger Index which, among other things, considers the rate of pedestrian deaths relative to the amount of walking taking place in cities around the nation.
The organization, pushes for alternative forms of transportation, argues that many pedestrian deaths are predictable and the result of design standards that elevate the car above all else. Unfortunately, for Orlando Florida, it was ranked #1. It was also ranked #1 in 2009 , the last time the rankings were published.
MOST DANGEROUS METRO AREAS FOR PEDESTRIANS 1. Orlando-Kissimmee, FL 2. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL 3. Jacksonville, FL 4. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL 5.
