CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Best & Worst Managed Cities Part 2, Best Managed 01-18-12
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
California cities made both the “Best and Worst Cities Managed in the Nation,” according to a new ranking by the website 24/7 Wall Street com. The review used information from crime statistics (violent crime) to poverty rates, education levels of residents, city credit ratings and financials, housing market indicators, general overall economy specifically the city’s abilities to encourage business prosperity and creation of jobs.
Two California cities made the Top Ten list of the “Best Managed,” they are Irvine and Fremont. The reasons behind their high rankings were based upon their financial conditions of their cities and also to create and encourage job growth. For example, Fremont, lost the NUMMI auto plant and nearly 5,000 jobs, but it has in part been replaced in a short time period by well over a thousand new jobs by the electric car manufacturer-Tesla that is forecasted to double that number of employees over the next year. Additionally, the City has taken a hit with the financial demise of Solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer. Yet, again, it is working on other business recruitments to continue to diversify and sustain its economy.
The following identifies the Top Ten Managed Cities.
TOP 10 BEST MANAGED CITIES IN THE NATION 1. Virginia Beach, VA 2. Irvine, CA 3. Madison , WI 4. Fremont, CA 5. Lincoln, NB 6. Chesapeake, VA 7. Seattle, WA 8. Scottsdale, AZ 9. Chandler, AZ 10. Plano, TX
