CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Expensive Cities to Visit 03-29-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Although California has been in a recession, some of its tourist destinations remain some of the most expensive places to visit in the nation. According to Forbes.com, two of the Golden State’s pricier locations, Monterey and Santa Barbara replace San Diego and San Francisco on the top ten list.
After dropping in 2009, hotel prices across the nation stabilized in 2010. However looking into the future, 2011 is showing a surge in demand and price. According to Expedia.com average prices were up as much as 20 percent from last year in places like Honolulu, Boston, Miami and Washington DC.
According to the latest Hotel Price Index by Hotels.com, the following cities commanded the highest prices for a night’s stay in 2010.
HIGHEST PRICE FOR A NIGHT STAY
City Average Rack Rate 1. New York $194.14 2. Honolulu $158.95 3. Boston $154.62 4. Santa Barbara $143.33 5. Washington DC $140.33 6. Miami $139.58 7. Chicago $133.93 8. Idaho Falls $132.52 9. New Orleans $132.27 10. Monterey $131.93
