CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Fastest Dying Cities 03-16-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
A recent ranking by Newsweek on the subject of “Fastest Dying Cities” has raised a variety of concerns stemming from methodology to painting a poor image of otherwise viable communities.
Newsweek utilized the most recent data from the Census Bureau on every Metropolitan Statistical Area, (MSA) with populations exceeding 100,000 to find the steepest population decline. Then a follow on analysis was completed on demographic changes to find what communities experience the largest drops in the number of residents under the age of 18.
