CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Ranking Cities for Jobs 03-02-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Indeed.com compiled a list of America's easiest and hardest cities for finding a job. They used data collected from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The ranking for each city was determined by calculating the number of job postings per thousand people in each major U.S. metropolitan area. The data covers job listings in the fourth quarter of 2010 with salary estimates of $50,000 or more.
THE TOP TEN EASIEST CITIES TO FIND A JOB 1. San Jose 2. Washington DC 3. Baltimore 4. San Francisco 5. Seattle 6. Boston 7. Hartford 7. Cleveland (tie) 8. Charlotte 8. Austin (tie)
In a recent ranking by the website JuJu, it used a different methodology but came up with nearly the same results. See Minute 12-08-10.Meanwhile Indeed.com also ranked the hardest cities for finding a job.
THE HARDEST CITIES TO FIND A JOB 1. New Orleans 2. Buffalo 2. Rochester (tie) 3. Miami 4. Louisville 5. Riverside
Of interest, Miami eliminated their economic development office over a year ago.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
